New Board Members for The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr Catherine Olweny and John Stanway have been appointed to the RCH Foundation Board.  

Dr Catherine Olweny is a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at the RCH, where she has worked since 2009. She has special interest in the prevention and management of procedural anxiety and distress and the prevention of medical trauma. She advocates for Trauma Informed Systems for healthcare delivery, a trauma informed approach to clinical education and for wellness-centred approach to leadership in healthcare. 

Dr Olweny is a Board Director of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) and is chair of the RACMA Finance and Audit Committee. She is an executive member of Society for Paediatric Anaesthesia in New Zealand and Australia (SPANZA). As Chair of the SPANZA Guidelines and Statements Committee, she supports the provision of safe, equitable and high-quality perioperative care for children. 

John Stanway is currently the President of Children’s Healthcare Australasia and Independent Chair of the South West Alliance Rural Health (SWARH). 

John was the Chief Executive Officer at the RCH from April 2017 until his retirement in July 2021. Prior to commencing in this role, John was the Chief Operating Officer at The RCH for more than ten years, overseeing clinical operations. From 2012, John also held the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Before joining the RCH, John managed Monash Medical Centre, was Chief Executive of the Transport Accident Commission and held various senior management roles at General Motors Holden.
