It is with deep appreciation that we acknowledge the exceptional contribution of Professor James Angus AO during his tenure as Chair of the Melbourne Children’s Campus Council, as he prepares to conclude this role at the end of June 2026. 

A distinguished academic, leader and public servant, James has brought extraordinary depth of experience to the role – from his longstanding association with the University of Melbourne to his broader contributions across biomedical research, education and governance, and his service as the current Lieutenant Governor of Victoria. His leadership of the Campus Council has been defined by clarity of purpose, intellectual rigour and a genuine commitment to collaboration. 

Under James’ stewardship as Chair since December 2017, the Melbourne Children’s Campus has continued to evolve as a powerful partnership between The Royal Children’s Hospital, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, the University of Melbourne and The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. He has been instrumental in reinforcing the principle that the Campus must deliver outcomes greater than the sum of its parts – championing the integration of clinical care, research, education, and community engagement to improve the health and wellbeing of children locally, nationally and globally. 

James has also played a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the Campus, encouraging ambition and ensuring a strong focus on impact, collaboration and global benchmarking. His ability to bring together diverse perspectives and align partners around a shared vision has been central to the Campus’ continued progress and success. 

While his tenure as Chair of the Melbourne Children’s Campus Council concludes at the end of June, James’ contribution to the Campus will continue through his role as a Director of The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation. This ongoing involvement reflects both his deep commitment to the Campus and the enduring value of his leadership in strengthening the vital connection between philanthropy and the broader Campus mission.
