Main funding purpose: Equipment or research to support the Emergency Department
The story so far
With 15 members, CasKids Auxiliary is small in numbers but big on achievements. The Auxiliary first opened in 1967 as the Nunawading Auxiliary but changed its name in 1995 when it changed its focus to support the Emergency Department. Historically, CasKids has funded the purchase of equipment in many different departments. Their most significant purchase was the Interactive Media Wall located in the waiting room of the Emergency Department.
Over the years, CasKids members have been dedicated to fundraising. Members have doorknocked for the Whitehorse Community Chest, receiving an allocation from the funds raised. They have stood under umbrellas in the rain at outdoor stalls and enjoyed the comfort of stalls inside the RCH. They have held sausage sizzles, lamington drives, fashion parades, line dancing evenings, annual high teas, Dutch auctions, jewellery and bag evenings and sold Tote Bags. Members also spent many years working in the Canteen and Auxiliaries Gift Shop, with their latest venture being an online shop.
Over the years, Auxiliary members have enjoyed Christmas breakups at Cruden Farm, the home of the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE. One of CasKids’ longest serving members, Robyn Anderson OAM, was President of Auxiliaries from 2013 until 2016. The Auxiliary boasts three Madge Tate Service Award winners, 11 Living Treasure Award winners and seven Life Governors.
2022/2023 Auxiliary Report
We have enjoyed returning to the hospital and holding stalls and loved the Auxiliaries 100 year celebrations culminating in the AGM and High Tea at the Sofitel. This year, we once again worked on the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. We had a great day, raising $4,323 for our Auxiliary. Cheryl Yates, a supporter of CasKids, made many successful sales online which have added to our external stalls at Blackburn and Tunstall Square at Doncaster. We also held stalls on the pods at the hospital. We are very grateful to the ladies of the Bairnsdale RSL Auxiliary who donated many bags of lovely homemade toys, quilts and knitted articles to us. We are also grateful for a private donation of $5,000 from the Sherriff family in the name of their late wife and mother Elaine. In total, we raised $21,640 in the past year. We would like to acknowledge the support from the Auxiliaries staff, especially Lucia Di Maio.
