St Kilda Auxiliary

Raising funds for wish list items, giving the RCH Foundation the ability to respond to the most pressing needs of the hospital.

Area: Southern suburbs

The story so far

Along with Hawthorn Auxiliary, St Kilda is one of the only original 10 Auxiliaries to still exist. Initially, members started a sewing group, making the doctors’ gowns, sheets and pillowcases. As the years progressed, they continued sewing and knitting items initially for the patients and then stalls.

When the Canteen was opened in 1923, St Kilda Auxiliary worked every Monday for more than 40 years. It also prepared green vegetables at the hospital during and just after the war years when there were not enough workers to cope with the work.

Over the years members have also worked in the Auxiliaries Shop, the Opportunity Shop and the Kiosk and held card parties. Nowadays, the Auxiliary is involved in market days at the hospital and Cuppa for Kids.

The Auxiliary has been supported by many groups in its 100 year history including the St Kilda Council, the City of Port Melbourne, St James Church and the Jean Littlewood Combined Charities.

Fundraising efforts by the Auxiliary have gone towards funding items on the hospital’s wish list including purchasing items for the Ear, Nose and Throat Department, the ICU and Radiology.

2022/2023 Auxiliary Report

Our Auxiliary is so inspired by all the families and children we see when we come into the RCH to keep fundraising for our wonderful hospital. We want to thank Robyn Anderson OAM, President of CasKids Auxiliary, and Lucia Di Maio for their constant ongoing support to our Auxiliary in the last year.
