Meet UooUoo, designed by Alexander Knox

The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) are excited to be partnering again with award-winning Melbourne artist Alexander Knox for the RCH150 Anniversary Art Trail! Alexander has created UooUoo (pronounced you-you) who will come to life around Victoria in September 2020 as part of the Me and UooUoo: RCH150 Anniversary Art Trail.

Alexander has a special connection to the RCH, his iconic 14-meter high sculpture “Creature” is a much-loved fixture of the hospital, standing prominently in the building’s main foyer.

Alexander was inspired by the 150 years of exceptional care, compassion and support of the RCH staff and community.

“When working on the concept for UooUoo I imagined a highly empathetic creature who is playful and brave. It’s been an amazing process working with the hospital and seeing these incredibly brave kids and families…UooUoo comes out of that spirit.” said Alexander.

The RCH150 Anniversary Art Trail is an exciting opportunity open for Victorian based artists to design their very own UooUoo. 100 artists will be selected to have their designs brought to life as part of the RCH150 Anniversary Art Trail, which will be transforming the streets, parks and public spaces of Melbourne and Geelong into a fun, free art gallery and taking people on a journey of discovery for 10 weeks from September to November 2020.

Artist submissions open on Monday 2 December 2019, visit www.uoouoo.org.au to learn more.
