The Royal Children’s Hospital Auxiliaries Centenary Cookbook, recipes from the heart and the homes of the Auxiliary community.
The vibrant and dynamic RCH Auxiliaries are a fundraising force to be reckoned with and in 2022 these incredibly dedicated and passionate volunteers are celebrating 100 years of supporting the hospital. To recognise this remarkable achievement, the Auxiliaries have come together to create this cookbook.
Featuring 26 delicious sweet and savoury recipes lovingly shared by the Auxiliary community, The Royal Children’s Hospital Auxiliaries Centenary Cookbook celebrates one hundred years of care and commitment to making sick kids better.
Over the past 100 years, food and friendship have been two essential ingredients that have brought Auxiliary members together. Through their cooking, they have given connection, comfort and joy to many patients and families, both in the hospital and in the wider community. More than just a collection of recipes, this cookbook shares beautiful stories of friendship, family and love, and showcases what it means to be involved in the RCH Auxiliaries.
This book is a celebration of the members who spent their days working in the hospital kitchen during World War II and for those who volunteered at the hospital canteen, a tradition that lasted for over 60 years. It is a celebration of hundreds of high tea fundraisers that have been held over the years, bringing members and their community together with sumptuous feasts, each outdoing the last. It is a celebration of the homemade jams, biscuits and cakes that members have spent hours making to sell at market stalls, each quickly selling out due to popular demand, and always bringing joy to those lucky customers. But most importantly, it is a celebration of every single member that has given their passion, time, creativity and support to help the Auxiliaries to grow into the much loved and highly regarded group that they are today.
“The Royal Children’s Hospital Auxiliaries Centenary Cookbook is proof of incredible people working together to make something wonderful. For many of us, cooking and baking are pleasurable and practical activities, and food is not just something that nourishes us, it is something that brings us together with friends and family,” Louise Gourlay AM, Patron of the RCH Auxiliaries.
All proceeds will be donated to the RCH by the Auxiliaries. The Royal Children’s Hospital Auxiliaries Centenary Cookbook is $29.95 and is available now from the Gratitude Hub online store.
