Beyond Sight Auxiliary

Main funding purpose: the Ophthamology Department at the RCH.

The story so far

Beyond Sight Auxiliary was established by a group of parents whose children had been diagnosed with a rare childhood eye cancer, retinoblastoma, with the aim of raising money to purchase a highly sought after digital fundus camera which fully examined and documented the retina of a child’s eye. The first event held by the Auxiliary was a dinner dance, which successfully raised the $150,000 needed for the camera. Since then, the Auxiliary has held a number of successful events including a swimathon, which covered 696kms over 24 hours and raised around $15,000. A year later, the Auxiliary held a very successful gala concert and family fun day in Bendigo. It recently worked with an RCH patient family to raise funds through the sale of a stud merino which sold for $2,700. The full proceeds were donated to the Auxiliary, and directed to the RCH Ophthalmology Department. The Auxiliary continues to support new families as well as fundraising for advanced equipment used by the Ophthalmology Department, specifically developed for imaging the eye.
