Main funding purpose: Cancer research
The story so far
After many years’ involvement with another Auxiliary, Ruth and Peter Murray and Sharron Markovic decided to form the Cancer Crusaders Auxiliary in 2013. Their aim was to engage the local community of Wyndham and support the Brain Tumour Clinical Trial Program. Cancer Crusaders is well known for their hospital stalls and market days – each market day their bake sale raises approximately $3,000 and they are fast becoming famous for their Sticky Date Puddings and Caramel Slices. The Auxiliary also hold an annual Christmas Market night at the Murray’s home in Point Cook, annual dinner dances, an Oaks Day Luncheon and twice yearly high teas, which are all hugely popular. The Cancer Crusaders Auxiliary was asked to revamp the activities at the Good Friday Appeal’s Kids Day Out. As a result, many appealing children’s activities are now offered. Participation was by donation of a $2 coin and an amazing $30,000 was raised in 2019. The Auxiliary has raised over $585,000 in the fight against childhood cancers.
2023/2024 Auxiliary Report
Cancer Crusaders, established in 2013, is a small but enthusiastic group of people dedicated to raising money to continue funding cancer research at the RCH’s CCC.
We recently celebrated a milestone 10th birthday and are very proud of our achievements during these 10 years, raising over $750,000.
As well as regular hospital stalls, and Market Days with our famous bake sale, we also run High Teas and a very popular Oaks Day Luncheon. Kids Day Out on Good Friday is our major event which is a very busy day, full of fun and balloon madness – this year raising over $27,000. We also have many regular supporters including our friends and family.
We look forward to funding our next project and continuing to support cancer research, with our aim to make sick kids better.
