Hawthorn Auxiliary

Main funding purpose: Area of greatest need

The story so far

The Hawthorn Auxiliary was established in 1922 and for many years supported the hospital with handmade garments, linen and cash donations.

Later on, the annual Christmas Stocking Appeal and sale of Christmas cards were significant fundraisers. Stalls were also held at Glenferrie Station and later in the foyer of the RCH. Two of the most successful fundraising events included the Black Cat Masked Ball and the Wish Them Well Gala. Community support has always been important for the Hawthorn Auxiliary. They were a recipient of the Hawthorn Community Chest for many years and St Joseph’s School in Hawthorn has supported them through gold coin donations on casual clothes day.

The Auxiliary had years where it was inactive due to low membership numbers but was revived each time years later when enthusiastic members would restart fundraising.

All money raised goes towards supporting Developmental Medicine at the RCH.
