Raising funds for research to advance the treatment of children with leukaemia.
Area: Various suburbs around Melbourne
The story so far
LARCH has, over the past 40+ years, and continues to this day, to support the Children’s Cancer Centre at The Royal Children’s Hospital. Funds raised by LARCH have been utilised for childhood cancer research and offering support to staff and families via the social workers. Members have contributed through the sale of artworks at Yering Station, stalls and the bi-annual Golf Day.
What we are working on
Research projects recently completed and funded by LARCH include:
- RCH Dieticians Nutrition Service Model for patients of the Children’s Cancer Centre;
- Physiotherapy study looking at the occurrence and treatment of peripheral neuropathy; and
- Tissue Bank upgrade enabling the extension of specimen collection to include peripheral blood and bone marrow specimens.
Finally, our Samaritan Fund continues to be used by the Social Work department for patients and families to cover the cost of expenses incurred by frequent and lengthy hospital admissions. Constant use of this fund demonstrates a genuine need that is not covered by other organisations.
