Raising funds to support the Neonatal Unit at the RCH.
Area: North Eastern Suburbs
The story so far
The Neonate Mates Auxiliary was formed in 2003 to raise important funds for the Butterfly unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.
The Neonate Mates Auxiliary consists of only 7 members who meet up regularly to discuss future fundraising ideas. We are extremely proud of our fundraising achievements over the last 15 years, we hope to continue supporting the neonatal unit for many more years to come.
The Neonatal Unit provides highly specialised care to the sickest newborn infants from around Australia. Whilst babies are not born at the RCH, they are usually transported immediately following birth via the PIPER Team from leading maternity hospitals to the Butterfly unit, which exists to extend treatments to critically ill newborns.
The life-saving and life-changing work of the Butterfly Ward inspires all members of the Neonate Mates Auxiliary who are committed to raising awareness and funds for this amazing unit within the RCH. The NNU’s mission ‘Giving our sickest babies the best chance – first chance at life’ is a motto that also inspires members of the Neonate Mates Auxiliary and its supporters.
What we are working on
Fundraising is primarily achieved via the conduct of stalls held at the hospital, shopping centres, the Melbourne flower show, Tunstall square Rotary market, Eltham Rotary festival and the Good Friday Appeal fun day. Most of our stalls are made up of donated knitwear, bric-a-brac, toys, books and jewellery which often come from community groups around our local area and many of our friends.
The aim of our fundraising is to successfully sponsor 3 NICU cots on the Butterfly unit each year at a cost of $5000 each, we hope to increase this sponsorship of cots over the next financial year.
