1880: Hospital receives largest bequest donation before 1900

Committee member Mary Ormond upon her husband’s death, donated £5,000, the largest single bequest it received before 1900.​

1887: Hospital officially recognised as a training school for nurses

The nursing school was inaugurated on 16 April 1890. After the prescribed two years of lectures on anatomy, physiology and general nursing, a certificate was issued showing attendance.

The first successful candidates were Grace Jennings Carmichael, Eleanor Goddard, Margaret Price and Alma Packham.
