As Melbourne and Geelong were waking up to a tribe of new sculptures in their neighbourhoods, a group of 45 engineers, team members and graduates were high-fiving for delivering this incredibly bespoke and logistically challenging art trail across the state.
Multiplex are a Principal Partner of Me and UooUoo: The RCH150 Anniversary Art Trail, and were an integral component in bringing the trail life. The team worked together over a period of two years, planning and preparing for everything including how to get the sculptures safely to Australia and housed in the creative spaces for artists, as well as safely delivering them to all 100 locations.
For leading construction company Multiplex, giving back is a major part of the organisation’s culture. As part of The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) 150th anniversary, Multiplex is supporting Me and UooUoo as a Principal Partner.
Me and UooUoo features 100 uniquely designed UooUoo sculptures across the streets of Melbourne and Geelong between 20 January and 21 March 2021, creating a spectacular public art trail.
“The RCH resonates with all our people in the business. We’ve all been touched in some way by the incredible care of the RCH, having children or knowing children who’ve been there, so we jumped at the opportunity to give back,” said Multiplex Managing Director Graham Cottam.
Multiplex employs over 6,800 people globally and an integral part of their workforce are their graduates, providing a pathway from their studies into the workforce. As part of the Graduate Program the graduates undertake a charitable project, offering their services in-kind to support a worthy cause. Multiplex graduates have been supporting the RCH Foundation, playing a pivotal role in the planning and delivery of Me and UooUoo.
“We’ve given our graduates full ownership of the project, developing their teamwork and management skills to ultimately deliver an impactful outcome,” said Graham.
The Multiplex graduates honed their skills in planning, logistics and procurement. The team led the renovation of the artist warehouse, sourced 100 plinths for the sculptures and planned the transport logistics for moving the UooUoos to their locations when the art trail launched in January 2021.
Not only are Multiplex supporting the behind-the-scenes action, they are also bringing colour and creativity to the streets by sponsoring their own UooUoo sculpture, selecting GlowUoo by Melbourne-based artist Emilie Walsh.
For Multiplex, the opportunity to partner with the RCH Foundation has not only supported its organisational goals in developing their graduates’ skills but it will also give all Multiplex employees the opportunity to support a cause close to their hearts in a fun and unique way.
